Thomastik-Infeld® of Vienna
Handmade Strings Since 1919 from Vienna, Austria
In 1919 violin maker Dr. Franz Thomastik and civil engineering specialist Otto Infeld founded the company, invented the steel string and caused a revolution in the music world. Suddenly the conventional gut string was challenged by a new string with the highest quality of tone, precision and reliability. It was received enthusiastically by virtuosi across the world.
The string makes the music. The diversity and beauty of the musical timbre depend upon, on the one hand, the type of material used for the core and on the other hand, the material spun around the core. For a perfect sound, Thomastik-Infeld has consistently chosen steel and nylon as the string core material for bowed and plucked instruments.
The highest standards are guaranteed by ongoing research in Thomstik-Infeld's own research lab engaging a team of highly specialized technicians. However, tone perfection is achieved primarily by the delicate touch of fingers and the highly qualified staff in the workshops: Every string at Thomastik-Infeld is wound and checked by hand.
Vision String Set 4/4 Size Medium
I have been playing violin for eight years and change my strings every six months. I have a student violin and have tried several different brands of strings, from Red Label to Overture Ultra, and most recently, Evah Pirazzi. I replaced my Evah Pirazzis last month with these strings and am so satisfied. No other strings I have ever purchased have produced a sound as rich as these have, and they are at such a great price on this website! The sound is wonderful. Additionally, it is so satisfying to play on these strings. They have a wonderful texture not only audibly, but physically. I can't quite think of a better word to describe the strings as comfortable to play. I could go so far as to say the strings feel soft when I press down on them. I'm not sure if these are things people generally look for when purchasing strings, but for me, I have a feeling I will be continuing to use Thomastik Infeld's Vision for a very long time.
I love these strings. They have a nice tone, are rather loud, and don't slip out of tune too often too much.
I have used Dominant strings for myself for years. Now that they have an inexpensive version for student instruments I thought I'd try a set. I put them on a rather inexpensive violin and was amazed at the transformation. Full, rich sound, easy playability and the student who uses this instrument loves the way he sounds.
With the dollar stronger against the Euro, why doesn't the price decrease? Someone is gouging the consumer.
