REVIEW VIDEOS

A warmer alternative to the original Rondo strings, Thomastik-Infeld's new Rondo Gold strings extend the versatility that Rondos are known for. Crisp and responsive, they offer precision and clarity while retaining warmth, allowing any sweet melody to sing clearly. In addition, Rondo Gold strings boast exceptional power and complexity of overtones, revealing a balanced spectrum of expression. Two E-strings provide built-in customization; choose the tin-plated E-string to maximize blending across the set or choose the gold-plated E-string to emphasize brilliance.

Bold and beautiful

This set of strings is loud- not sacrificing tone quality or playability. Currently I’m playing a solo with an orchestra- it’s perfect for that. Playing in the section requires me to work harder to blend in with some of the more gentle dynamics. I am using the standard Estring (not the gold one). There are no whistles. The sound quality is even across all strings and all registers. I am having no difficulty producing natural and artificial harmonics on any string. The tone quality is lovely- a good mix of direct and also some warmth, but not muddy at all. My violin tends to sound “harsh”, and in the past I’ve tried Evah Pirazzi (too bright) Obligato (beautiful, but a bit of a slower response on D and G strings) and for the past 2 years I’ve been playing on Rondo. Unfortunately(?) the Rondo were not available at the time when my strings were DYING, and I took a risk and bought the rondo gold. At this time, it is the perfect string set for me. Because of the music that I am preparing and performing- concertmaster, quartet (the other violin has a very loud instrument) and the aforementioned virtuoso solo. If I were playing section violin or more baroque or early classical repertoire these strings would be too much (obligato preferred). The other thing I really like about the Rondo strings is that they last for a really long time. My previous two sets of Rondo only started sounding bad after about a year. Granted, I am not a professional, but I do play quite a bit. These strings make my violin sound amazing and allow me to do a lot of fun effects and bring out colors and nuances that obligato and Evah didn’t.
