REVIEW VIDEOS

The beautiful, lyrical Violin Concerto in D Major was the first concert work Korngold composed following the end of World War II. During the war, he had written only film music to make ends meet, vowing that he would not compose for pleasure again until Hitler had been defeated. In 1945, he re-entered the world of art music with this concerto, which he dedicated to Alma Mahler. Despite this new compositional direction, the concerto nonetheless bears the marks of Korngold's career in Hollywood, borrowing liberally from his film scores for its memorable themes. In character, the concerto is warm and expansive, with a vivacious final movement that speaks of swashbuckling adventure. This edition is for violin with piano reduction. Published by Schott Music. Difficulty: A6
