REVIEW VIDEOS

Daughter of Johannes Finkel, Daniela is carrying the Finkel legacy into the next millennium, with her finely crafted pernambuco bows. Exceptional ease of control from tip to frog, producing a warm, smooth tone. This pernambuco stick is moderate-supple. The balance point lies close to center-frog.

Round pernambuco stick. Ebony frog with silver mountings.

Some variation in color and lapping may occur.

"For some decades it has been our pleasure to offer bows from the legendary Swiss Atelier of the Finkel family. The establishment has, for over 40 years, provided performing artists, teachers and students with the finest bows. I personally own bows by Johannes Finkel and Markus Fisher and have recommended bows from all the other makers in the Atelier to my students and colleagues. I have been visiting my friends in Switzerland for years to discuss and select fine examples of their work for our customers. The centuries-old art of bow-making, using the finest pernambuco with only the highest-grade ebony, silver and gold, lives on in this preeminent workshop. I highly recommend any of the Finkel line of bows to our valued customers."
- Charles Avsharian, Shar CEO

The tradition of the master bowmaker is alive and well at the workshop of Johannes Finkel in Brienz, Switzerland. Mr. Finkel's bowmaking heritage descends from his great-grandfather, Ewald Weidhaas, a craftsman from the renowned workshop of Victor Fetique. It has passed through the hands of his grandfather, Paul Weidhaas and father, Siegfried Finkel. As a fourth generation bowmaker, Mr. Finkel's devotion to incomparable craftsmanship and the fine traditions of bowmaking have placed him among the world's pre-eminent living makers.

This bow made me a better cellist

I've had a good Horst Schicker bow for 30 years but I needed another bow so I could send the first out for maintenance. When Shar put a Daniela Finkel bow on holiday discount I took a chance. This bow frightened me at first. Its balance was so different that I thought it was only suited to orchestral section playing. Yet it clearly wasn't just a tool for droning out sonorous bass lines -- it was springy as a baby goat. Diagnosis: I'd spent 30 years driving a four-door sedan and I’d just gotten keys to a Ferrari. I decided to take 30 days to see if I could adapt. Moving my bow grip farther from the frog changed the balance from slightly tip heavy to perfect. I dedicated fifteen minutes each day practicing different bowings. After a month, I knew I had a keeper. I can finally maintain a decent sautille and put multiple spiccato bounces where they belong! I have a wider whole range of dynamics and tonal colors too. This Daniela Finkel bow is amazing: It has made me a better player.
