Pirastro was founded in 1798 by Giorgio Pirazzi, an Italian string maker from Domodossola who trained in Naples and Rome before settling in Germany. The company has made strings in Offenbach am Main ever since and marked its 225th anniversary in 2023, making it one of the oldest continuously operating string manufacturers in the world. Strings, rosins and accessories are still handmade in Germany.
