About Larsen Strings
Larsen Strings began with a question: can you make me a cello A string? The answer was anything but simple, but that remark led violinist and innovator Laurits Th. Larsen to deliver the first Larsen cello A from the family garage. The company was founded in 1990 and is based in Southern Denmark, where it has been at the forefront of string development ever since.
Larsen at Shar
Larsen is best known for cello, and our range covers the cello lines alongside violin and viola sets. Many cellists mix brands across a set, and our string specialists can talk through the combinations that work on a particular instrument.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do cellists mix Larsen with other brands?
It is long-standing practice. Larsen's upper strings are valued for clarity and response, while many players prefer a rope-core steel string for the lower two. Mixing brands across a set is normal on cello and not a compromise.
Where are Larsen strings made?
In Southern Denmark. The company was founded there in 1990 by Laurits Th. Larsen and still manufactures in Denmark.
