When I was 13, Mr. Larsen transformed my understanding of violin sound.
I remember it was an early starting of the school year, a quiet, kind-eyed man visited my school (The Centra Conservatory of Music). He wasn’t there to perform or give a demonstration – he came with a mission: to find young musicians with potential and help them experience the kind of sound that could unlock their true voice.
Mr. Laurits Th. Larsen, a violinist himself, had founded Larsen strings in 1990 in Denmark, starting from his family garage. Just because there wasn’t one set of strings that fitted his imagination of his true voice. Determined, he decided to produce them himself, leading to the creation of the first Larsen strings. His goal was never just about selling strings – it was about creating tools that allowed musicians to express the deepest nuances of their artistry, bridging the gap between composers and the audience.
That day, a few of us played for Mr. Larsen, and he decided to support me and a cellist ( Bonian Tian ) who went on to become a great cellist and professor. He gave me my first set of Larsen Tzigane violin string set and supported me throughout my student years, provided me with Larsen strings that transformed my playing. Today I use the Larsen Gold violin set and has proudly became Larsen Strings Artist.
The quality of those strings brought out colors in my sound I had never imagined. They taught me that the right tools could elevate not just technique, but also confidence and expression. His belief in me became a cornerstone of my musical journey.
Today, as a professional violinist and COO of Shar Music, I am carrying Mr. Larsen’s legacy forward. His story reminds me that behind every great product is a heart that cares, and behind every young musician is a potential waiting to be nurtured.
Thank you, Mr. Larsen, for seeing me. Your strings didn’t just change my sound, they changed my life.
