Yasuda, Martha - Out of the "Bachs", Selections from Unaccompanied Sonatas & Partitas for Two Violins - Digital Download

Out of the “Bachs” is an “Out of the Box” music project! When students first try and tackle Bach’s Unaccompanied Sonatas and Partitas, it is so challenging for them to “get” the harmonic lines within phrases. Written with these students in mind, a 2nd violin part is added to selected movements. When playing Out of the “Bachs” duets, a supportive, extra voice helps guide them along, both musically and harmonically. Ultimately, this should translate to playing the original, unedited solo Bach works with greater confidence and musical understanding. 

Most humbly, it has been a lot of fun for Martha to “guess” what Bach might have been imagining! Dynamics are entirely subjective and are added to give students a framework that many performers typically use. 

There are many readable, but less played, selections in the B Minor Partita that make lovely duets. It is Martha’s desire that students will enjoy these selected movements more than ever before as they play them with a friend or teacher. 

The order and selection of pieces included in Out of the “Bachs” is graded, beginning with the most familiar: 

1. D Minor: All mvmts., minus the Chaconne 
2. E Major: All mvmts. 
3. G Minor: Adagio, Sicilienne and Presto 
4. B Minor: Courante and Doubles #1-4
