I've played violin 45 years and put this rest on a couple of years ago and I just love it. It's lightweight carbon composite, including the mounts. It makes MINIMAL contact with the body of the violin. So it should give your violin a little more room to vibrate and give you a little bit more volume and responsiveness. New materials and better science are helping luthiers squeeze more sound out of fiddles. Carbon tailpieces, steel and kevlar tailguts, carbon buttons -- it is worth experimenting with all these things. You may be able to really upgrade your fiddle with a very minimal investment.
