Morten Lauridsen is a winner of the 2007 National Medal of the Arts and the 2016 ASCAP Foundation “Life in Music” award among others. This collection of two songs for violin and piano includes Dirait-on, which is adapted from Lauridsen's choral cycle titled Les Chansons des Roses, which is based on poems by Rainer Maria Rilke. The second song in the collection is Sure On This Shining Night, which was originally part of the choral cycle Nocturnes, whcih was based on poems by Rilke, Nerude, and Agee.

Ok it’s a decent arrangement for easy violin, but each solo fits on two pages. So instead of printing them each on one side of a folded larger sheet, they printed it so that each piece begins at the fold (like the first page of a book) so no matter which one you’re playing you have to turn a page. And it didn’t save them any paper doing it this way. We all like to joke that music printers have it in for us on page turns but this one really just doesn’t make sense. It’s not going to make it unusable obviously but it would be nice if the people who publish music thought about these things when formatting music.
