REVIEW VIDEOS

Sebastian Lee, a cellist and composer in the early 1800s, is not well known considering the large number of compositions for cello he published during his lifetime. Of all his work, only his etudes, which he published collections of at every difficulty level, remain known today. His Opus 70 etudes are known for their beauty, something not often said about short etudes, as well as their educational value. A second cello part is also included with these etudes, intended for teacher accompaniment.

Difficulty: A3 (Apprentice Rating)

My favorite edition

This is my favorite edition of this wonderful collection of etudes. Each etude is preceded by a small paragraph (in three languages) explaining the purpose of the etude with various strategies for practicing. This collection is excerpted in the popular 170 Etudes collection by Schroeder, but it's so much nicer to be able to study them as duets with a friend or teacher. Not all etudes are melodic and pretty and rewarding to play---these are. They are almost totally in first position, yet they will reward you with much improved bow control and more musical phrasing. An excellent resource for developing greater musicality.
