Khachaturian, Aram - Sonata for Viola Solo - Library of Russian-Soviet Music

The Sonata for Solo Viola of Aram Khachaturian was a late work for the composer - perhaps one of the last he ever composed. Written in 1976, just two years before Khachaturian's death, it came two years after the publication of another solo string work, the Sonata for Solo Cello. Difficult and dark, the Sonata for Solo Viola is not a well-known work, even among violists, but is best suited toward advanced players with a good command of the instrument.
