Francesco Trio Contemporary American Piano Trios CD

Nathan Schwartz, Piano, Miwako Watanabe, Violin and Bonnie Hampton, Cello - Piano Trios by Andrew Imbrie, Seymour Shifrin, John Harbison and Mel Powell. The works presented in this recording were chosen by the Francesco Trio for a number of reasons, but mainly because the quantity and quality of 20th century repertoire for the piano trio is quite remarkable, and not much has been recorded. The Trio also chose to focus on composers who have spent major parts of their careers in California, or those the Trio has known and worked with on the West Coast. These include Andrew Imbrie (b. 1921), Seymour Shifrin (b. 1926), John Harbison (b. 1938), and Mel Powell (b. 1923).
