Applebaum's Beautiful Music for Two series was created to give developing string musicians early exposure to ensemble playing.  It encourages listening and communication between the two players, and highlights intonation, balance, and phrasing -- things that are often lost in solo and orchestral playing.

Has Different Songs than Volume III

Beautiful Music Volume IV includes fifth position along with the first four positions. It also has a lot more sixteenth (and thirty-second) notes than previous books. And, as the cover says, ìall the basic bowings as well as the spiccatos and staccatos
are presented in interesting duets fro [sic] the classics.î All of the songs contain two parts (with the exception of ìA Canon In Unisonî) and normally the melody changes lines periodically. Another aspect is that this book helps you learn to play songs with
flats. Two songs have one flat (ìA Two Part Inventionî in D minor and ìFantasyî in F major), two others have two flats (ìSarabandeî and ìCanzonettaî in G minor), and another two songs have three flats (ìA Canon In Octavesî in C minor ìDuo No. 2î and Eb major).
Volume IV has 7 less songs than Volume III, but they have the same number of pages (Volume IV has more two-page songs). Mainly why I wrote this review, however, is because the list of songs given in the description is actually the list for Beautiful Music
Volume III. I made a table of contents (there isnít one in the book) and have it pictured below.
