About Everest

Everest makes shoulder rests for violin and viola, built around collapsible and foldable designs that fit inside the case rather than travelling separately. The range spans full and fractional sizes and is widely used by students and school programmes, where price, durability and easy adjustment matter more than anything else.

Everest at Shar

Our Everest selection covers the main shoulder rest families in violin and viola sizes, including collapsible and foldable models and a range of colours. Because Everest sizes follow the instrument, matching a rest to a student instrument is straightforward.

Shar has been fitting string players since 1962. If you are not sure whether a shoulder rest is the right shape for a particular player, our staff can talk through the options — and we also carry other brands if a different design suits better.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size Everest shoulder rest do I need?

Match the rest to the instrument, not the player. A 4/4 violin takes a full-size rest; 3/4, 1/2 and smaller instruments take the matching fractional model. Viola rests are sized separately by body length.

Will an Everest rest fit inside my case?

Everest’s collapsible and foldable models are designed to fold down so they fit in the accessory compartment or under the neck of most cases. If your case is unusually shallow, check the folded dimensions before ordering.

Do I need a shoulder rest at all?

Not necessarily — it depends on the player’s neck length, shoulder shape and how the instrument sits. Many players use one, some do not, and a teacher is usually the best person to judge. If a rest keeps slipping or feels uncomfortable, the shape or height is often wrong rather than the idea itself.
