O'Connor, Mark - Midnight On The Water for Unaccompanied Violin - Digital Download

Midnight On The Water is Mark O'Connor's highly praised 1998 recording on Sony Classical that features unaccompanied pieces for violin. In this collection, O'Connor gives us his arrangements of "Amazing Grace", "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Bonaparte's Retreat", all of which are famous centuries old folk songs. O'Connor uniquely crafts these great melodies into violin encores which have become a trade mark of his concerts during the 1990's.

Also included here is the recording's namesake, a Benny Thomasson tune in which he, his father and his uncle all collaborated on in Texas during the early 1900's. The tune has since become a favorite of American influenced fiddlers from all over the world. O'Connor keeps his arrangement close to Thomasson's original beautiful waltz he learned from the master as his 12 year old protege. Completing this collection is an O'Connor composition, "The Cricket Dance" featuring the tapping of the foot! The piece is Latin flavored and employs a hypnotic and bouncy rhythm throughout.
