Born in 1843, Heinrich Theodore Heberlein Jr. was immersed in the art of violinmaking throughout his life. He first worked under his father, the respected Markneukirchen maker, Carl August Heberlein and subsequently moved to Leipzig to work for Bausch and then to Hanover where he studied with August Reichers. Heinrich established his own shop in 1863 and also taught at the Markneukirchen Violin Making School until his retirement in 1897. His sons Paul Wilhelm and Albert Theodor inherited the workshop and continued to use their father’s name for violins produced there.
