This cello bow comes from the distinguished H.R. Pfretzschner workshop in Markneukirchen, a key center of German bow and instrument making during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bearing the hallmark qualities of Saxon craftsmanship, this bow offers a compelling balance of strength, clarity, and traditional aesthetics.
Fashioned from well-selected pernambuco, the stick is octagonal, with a medium to firm strength, and a consistent camber that supports clean articulation and dependable tracking. The bow is mounted in silver with a classic ebony frog, often featuring pearl eyes and a three-piece button.

Hermann Richard Pfretzschner began his studies with father, Carl Richard before working in the shop of J.B. Vuillaume in 1874. Pfretzschner established his own shop in Markneukirchen in 1880.
