Carrie Scoggins Viola
Tulip Poplar Back & Sides | Handcrafted in the Southwest
Built with a deep reverence for both material and music, this Carrie Scoggins viola is a singular expression of artistry and innovation. Featuring back and sides carved from tulip poplar, this instrument offers a tone that is at once warm, woody, and full of character—an uncommon voice for players who value individuality and nuance.
The tulip poplar's natural beauty is accentuated by Scoggins’ expert workmanship, from the fluid arching to the hand-applied varnish that invites both the eye and the ear. Paired with a fine spruce top and meticulous setup, the viola delivers a broad tonal palette: focused in the upper register, rich and sonorous in the lower, and responsive across all dynamics. This is a viola for the curious, the expressive, and the uncompromising.
