REVIEW VIDEOS

From the highly respected Toronto workshop of Miki Inokuchi, this viola is a perfect representation of the Inokuchi hand. Fine projection and balance for a variety of situations and venues, yet with a pleasing and warm tone. The plates have been optimized for a soaring and open sound, a hallmark of the Inokuchi approach. Antiquing and varnish color may vary slightly as these are uniquely crafted by the maker.

Lovely instrument

This viola has a beautiful tone -- open, resonant, and mellow. My husband was in the next room when I first played it. He's not given to saying much usually but commented later that it was a beautiful sound. This viola is a joy to play. Based on the one star review I would like to add that the viola and the Dominant strings arrived in perfect condition. Also, the person I spoke to on the phone was helpful and pleasant. The instrument arrived in two days as promised.

Subpar Customer Service

I'd read very favourable reviews about Inokuchi instruments and thought this viola, especially at a 25% discount, was an exceptional opportunity to upgrade my Karl JosephSchneider. .Unfortunately, Shar missed the mark on this home trial. I received this viola with a set of strings where the winding was visibly frayed, an indication that the strings were old or previously used. The C and G string were deep but clangy, and the D string was extremely nasal and downright awful from third position and above, and the A string meh.. Overall, the sound was metallic and a little too harsh for my taste. I am no luthier, but I have never seen a "relatively" new instrument (tag showed 2020), with such discoloured/faded pegs and pegs with grooves/cracks near the head of the pegs. Despite these issues, the pegs did prove to hold. Perhaps this could have been a good purchase, after a visit to a luthier, but I was so disgusted that I returned it after only two days of playing it. I don’t normally write reviews, but this experience has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and I will approach future Shar purchases with caution.
