"Dedicated to the Artists"

Paganini's dedication of his groundbreaking 24 Caprices, in 1820, was ". . . to the Artists". In this same spirit, Larsen created their latest violin string masterwork, new Il Cannone strings, in tribute to this greatest of all violinists, and to his magnificent violin, the Guarneri del Gesu that he called Il Cannone. Using the same new synthetic core technology as in their Virtuoso violin strings, Larsen set out to produce strings that would bring out the best in performances of "firework" pieces, such as the 24 Caprices. With a sound that artists have describes as "noble and powerful", "biting", and having "real punch", Il Cannone strings deliver that critical element that is necessary for a truly great performance. Offering good bow resistance, great hand feel and fast response, Il Cannones may well become your favorite strings.

Designed to bring out the best in your violin, Il Cannone individual strings and sets are available as two versions. The Medium variant has a more moderate tension with an open, colourful, projecting, richer and powerful sound whilst the Soloist brings a fuller tone, with even more presence and focus.

Great set of strings!

If you want a set of strings that last longer and you like Gold Evah these are it! The strings are well balanced and the E String is amazing! This set has nice projection but not so much kick like a soloist string. These lasted me for 6 months and I play 5 hours a day and 7 hours on weekends. The medium didn't take too long to settle in. I would say about a week so might not want to put these one a week before a concert

My new favorite string set!

canam
able to create many various nuances in sound, color, and modulation. Truthfully, it’s odd to be able to play on a string set with this sort of power and clarity without them also being overly stiff and tense like, say, the Evah Pirazzi Golds that I had on the
instrument before I bought these. *Spoiler Alert*: They’re a little more graceful and refined than the aforementioned Evah Golds as well. I also LOVE the silkiness & abundance of overtones throughout the entire range of the set, particularly with the carbon-steel
E string. I rather prefer this set’s E string over the new Evah Pirazzi E-platinum because of the Il Cannone E’s shimmering complexity. It also feels smoother under the left hand. My violin’s upper register had previously been missing that “little
extra something” to its harmonics that this set delivered on, as well as lending an even bolder sizzle and clarity to the lower register, much to my surprise/delight. On my violin, Larsen Il Cannone violin strings are a glorious match, and I’m so glad I went
out on a limb and tried them. They have a robust amount of total volume and are very sensitive to the player’s every little impulse. Whether or not you are a soloist, are in an orchestra, or just enjoy playing the violin, these strings have WAY more than enough
power needed for every day playing, and with only very modest tension."

Bad Winding

I'll do the summary first. For the first 14 days, great sound. These are definitely clear, and focused. Most violins will project well with these. That comes at the cost of color, generally. However, the winding is failing on both the A and D strings near the bridge, where they are played and cleaned. At this price, that is unacceptable, and there is no recourse in terms of getting replacements or what have you. If I ever hear that they have acknowledged and fixed the winding, I would love to try these again, that is how much I loved the sound. The longer version about the sound is that they are sharp, focused, and clear. I love the sound. There is less color variance, but due to the medium tension, they are very responsive. I'm not sure they get super quiet but that might just be something to get used to. There is also something easy to play about them, I think because of how clear they are. I simply hear better, and so I can adjust faster. If they had lasted 3 months, I would have ordered more. Unfortunate, but hopefully just the growing pains of a new string.
