January 24, 2013This violin will make you a better player...
We tested a dozen violins from Shar and shops in Seattle before settling on this one. This is not a timid or subtile violin - the description 'with great projection' is spot on. It has a huge ynamic range of quality tone. All aspects of one's playing can be clearly heard - which means the sound positively soars when you play correctly, but really fails flat when you don't. My daughter is moving up from Shar's LV11 violin, which in comparison is far more forgiving within a limited tonal and dynamic range (still a fantastic violin for the price). She was getting really frustrated with some triple-stops on the LV11, but with this violin she quickly mastered the triple-stops because her ear could more clearly hear the individual notes and make adjustments on the fly. This violin will make your playing more disciplined and accurate with great rewards - or else you and everyone around will suffer :-) ... (See Full Review)

January 19, 2013This violin and I will go a long way together.
I took this violin to a friend, a luthier with 50+ years of experience. I value his opinion very much. He said: when I handed it to him he was a little unhappy about the varnish. It could ave been done better. But he was surprised: this violin has a fantastic sound. He said the Chinese have come a long way! Balanced and even across all strings. Warm and sweet. The wood work has been done very nicely, not the usual short-cuts he has come across before. He would do some minor adjustments, but it is nothing I should worry about. I guess every luthier has their own tweaks. My impression: This violin has a powerful full sound somewhat on the darker side (under my ear). Most importantly: I have a lot more control of the tone than I had with my previous violins. This violin is not as forgiving as other violins and I hear my technical imperfections much easier, but I think that is for the better. I have the feeling this violin and I will go a long way together. I am still a beginner, and the Shar-Trade-in-Policy has been absolutely fantastic for me. Thank you! ... (See Full Review)
