Inspired by one of the most beautiful violins ever made, the 1737 "King Joseph" Guarneri. This John Cheng model has the unmistakable Guarneri sound - dark, complex and voluptuous, with great projection. The beautiful reddish-brown antique varnish is decidedly dramatic and inspiring. Setup in Ann Arbor by our professional staff, fitted with top-level strings and tested and adjusted by a skilled player to achieve optimal performance.

    Purchased for young, advancing student

I'm a string teacher who bought this instrument for my 13yo Suzuki Bk 7 daughter. Her teacher and she and I chose this violin because of the bright tone, projection and ease of playability. We are pleased with it for these reasons. As her abilities are tuned, we would like a warmer, richer tone in a violin, but this is the right choice for now. I personally do not prefer playing it because of the extreme brightness, however, I may play around with some different strings. The other minor issue I have is the varnish is lumpy in appearance, particularly when viewed at the angle of the player. Also, since it was "pre-aged" the stain was left off where a chinrest would normally be and my daughter prefers a center chinrest, so there is a large light patch exposed which looks a bit weird. Overall, we are pleased with the violin and the Shar service. ... (See Full Review)
