About This Item

The Perfect Starting Guide for Young Performers

Notable teacher and violinist Susan Black created Six Dances for Violin Students especially for her own students, providing them with a more in depth immersion into several important styles of playing than can be obtained from just the etude books. Beautifully written original dances with expert piano accompaniment, Ms. Black put her decades of playing and teaching experience to work, creating perfect concert pieces for intermediate and advancing students. Each piece includes practice help, suggesting a corresponding etude from the literature as preparation for playing the piece. Expert advice, clearly and succinctly written, provides the student with everything they need to successfully “go beyond the notes”, and immerse themselves in real music making.

Each piece is designed to handle various technical and rhythmic problems; each is written in a different key signature and a rhythmic pattern which needs to be programmed into the bow arm. One is a "Gypsy Tune" in G Minor, a "Waltz" in G Major, a "March" in C Major with every conceivable dotted rhythm, a "Tarantella and Romance" in A Minor, a piece for violin alone in E Major with a nod to the Bach solo Partitas, and a piece in D Major with multiple rhythms (5/8, 4/8, 6/8) called "Danza".

Includes 25 page piano accompaniment, and 14 page pull-out violin book.
