REVIEW VIDEOS
Orlando Cole & Lynn Harrell
For the first time, through the medium of digital recording, the skill and wisdom of two masters is focused on the cellist's bow-arm. Subtleties of a wide variety of bow-strokes are discussed and demonstrated using musical applications from the cello repertoire.
Orlando Cole was the founding cellist of the Curtis String Quartet. Teaching at Curtis and Temple University, Mr. Cole has had an enormous influence on two generations of cellists. In 1990 he was honored as "Teacher of the Year" by the American String Teacher's Association.
Lynn Harrell has achieved all that one might with the cello during the past 30 years. To his great renown as a virtuoso soloist and chamber music cellist, he has added his success as a teacher at both the University of Southern California and Juilliard. Recently, he has expanded his career to that of conducting and the directorship of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Volume 1: A presentation of basic principles and the correction of common faults and tensions. A demonstration of their musical application is shown by a 9-year old student. At the close, Lynn Harrell performs the prelude from Bach Suite No. 3. (34 minutes)
Volume 2: Advanced level analysis using Variations Op. 3 by the celebrated violin pedagogue, Ottakar Sevcik. Includes discussion of tone colors, the production of beautiful sound, and artistic goals. (66 minutes)
