About This Item

This violin has a strong and brilliant tone, well balanced for both solo and chamber work. A good example from Marneukirchen's golden age in the early to mid 20th century.

The back is of two pieces of maple of medium width flame, descending from the center seam. The top is of well defined medium width grain. Red-brown varnish over a golden ground, with pronounced and tasteful shading.

Robert Penzel was born in Markneukirchen in 1873. Receiving his training with Otto Schunemann, Penzel then received further training and apprenticeship in France and England. He established himself in Markneukirchen in 1902.
