About This Item

A very well-made Stradivari reproduction from 19th/20th century Markneukirchen maker, G. A. Pfretzschner. This violin, in excellent condition, produces a pure, brilliant, clear and sonorous sound, an ideal chamber music violin. The two-piece maple back has medium-width flame descending slightly from the center joint. The top is of straight-grained spruce of medium width. Very appealing and lustrous varnish in red-brown over a golden ground.

The name “Pfretzschner” has a long and respected history in the Vogtland region of Germany, and Markneukirchen, in particular. With violin and bowmaking roots originating in the early 1700s, the family name continues to be very well represented in their traditional craft to this day.
