Justin Derazey Mirecourt Violin

The Mirecourt influence is apparent in this fine example of Justin Amédée Derazey's work. This violin will blend particularly well with members of a chamber ensemble, and has a balanced tone with great character. The sound is rich and textured, well-balanced, blending exceptionally well with other players – an ideal chamber music violin. Bold varnish, in deep red brown over a golden ground, with time-darkened shading. Carefully-selected wood, as is usual with this maker, with a two piece medium-fine flamed back, and medium-wide grain top. The instrument is in good condition, with normal wear.

Justin Amédée Derazey
Justin Amédée Derazey, son of Honoré Derazey, who was among Vuillaume's most esteemed and valuable makers, never reached his father's reputation, but is, nonetheless, highly regarded for his high quality work. The materials he used, notably wood selection and varnish, are first rate. Born in 1839, he eventually started his own workshop in Mirecourt, eventually taking over the successful firm of J. Nicolas. Winner of several awards at the Paris and London Exhibitions.
