Don Noon Violin Carlsbad, CA 2013

A finely made modern violin, with close attention to detail, by Carlsbad, CA maker Don Noon. Two piece maple back of medium flaming, descending from the treble to bass side. Straight, narrow grained spruce top. The varnish, applied in a modern style, is brown-red over a golden ground.

After retiring as an aerospace engineer from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2007, Don Noon put his energy into violin making. He has applied himself to his current profession with the same care and passion he employed as a rocket scientist, which has led him to great success, including a gold medal at the 2010 VMAII competition. Violin soloist Annelle Gregory plays on a Don Noon violin, having won the 2017 Sphinx Competition with the same instrument.
