Collin-Mezin Fils Violin, 1924, Paris

Born in 1879 in Amboise, Charles Collin-Mezin II trained with his famous father, the great Charles J. B. Collin-Mezin. After his father’s death, he took over the Mirecourt workshop and followed the patterns and methods of his father’s instruments, later developing a more personal style. His legacy continued through his son.

This example, from 1924, displays unmistakable Collin-Mezin workmanship and style. Big, bold, decidedly French tone, with clear and brilliant balanced overtones. One piece maple back, finely grained spruce top. Delicately applied red-brown varnish over an amber ground.
