Albert Deblaye Violin 1927 France

A fine example of French craftsmanship and varnish from the period, with bold orange-red varnish over a golden ground. This violin has superb projection and a balanced, pure tone. Dramatic one piece flamed back with tasteful shading. The violin is in excellent condition, showing several minor repairs that have been expertly rendered.

Albert Deblaye
Albert Deblaye was born in 1874. His early training was in Mirecourt, Paris and Tououse, apprenticing in various workshops, most notably Gautier. Establishing his own firm in Mirecourt, Deblaye partnered with H. Meunier, building a successful atelier. Working in the manner of Vuillaume, Deblaye's work was based on the patterns and finish of Cremonese masters, for which he quickly became noted. He eventually developed several levels of instruments, "Soloist", "Artist" and the top-level "Italian", the lowest of which employed some machine and apprentice work but finished by Deblaye himself. Deblaye's instruments exhibit a fine level of craftsmanship, excellent tonal qualities due to careful plate tuning, and outstanding tonewood selection. Deblaye's instruments are branded, signed and numbered.
