About This Item

The Realist Copperhead Pickups are by David Gage & NS Design. The Copperhead rests between the bridge feet and the instrument top, which puts it exactly where the sound is transferred from the strings to the sound board. The result is rich, powerful response, both pizzicato and bowed. Its mounting hardware is extremely compact and with such a high output gain it requires no external preamp. The copper foil sandwich construction provides total shielding to eliminate hum from light fixtures and other electrical or radio interference.

Asked On: 11/30/2016

Will the pickup's contact with the top of the instrument result in body noise (e.g. from tapping on the body or turning the tuning pegs)?

SHAR Answer:

Hi Nathaniel! All pickups will transmit some body noise, string noise, tapping, etc.. The realist, being under the bridge, mostly picks up sound that travels between the bridge and the instrument top, but is also sympathetic to the body's response to that sound. This makes the sound well balanced, though it is a hot and brilliant pickup. The Realist instruments actually have this pickup embedded inside the top plate of the instrument, making the response warmer, and reducing string noise somewhat. Hope this helps!
