Will this work with a 1/16 violin? Mine just came, but it looks really big next to my daughter's violin.

Asked On: 07/10/2017

I'm considering trying this chinrest but I'm imagining the hump would get in the way. What is the purpose and benefit of the hump for those who like this chinrest?

SHAR Answer:

Hello Sarah! I agree that it doesn't look promising at first, but it actually is much less obtrusive than it looks (though not comfortable for everyone). Since your chin actually comes down at a bit of an angle, and your jaw protrudes more than your neck, it gives you a little more leverage by giving something for your jaw to hold to. It doesn't really jab in there, but feel the soft area just underneath your jaw with your thumb, and you will see that having something there to "hook" under the jaw might keep your instrument from slipping and will allow you to be more relaxed. It is just one option! Remember that you can always return if for a full refund within 30 days. We often recommend ordering 4-5 chinrests and trying them all, then sending back the ones that don't work out. Just call to set up the return and ship back to us with whatever carrier is most convenient for you! Good luck with your search for the right chinrest for you!
