Much like a modern beginner's method, Franz Wohlfahrt's Easiest Elementary Method for Beginners, Op. 38, covers the very basic essentials of violin-playing. String and note names are addressed early on, as well as pictures demonstrating correct posture and bow-hold. Short pieces and duets are introduced to reinforce concepts taught with scales and etudes, like rhythm and intonation. The difference is that this method was written well over 100 years ago! There aren't quite as many colorful pictures or margin notes as you might find in a modern method, so it is perhaps not as helpful step-by-step, but it would work well for an adult beginner learning with a private teacher, or a student of any age who just wants some supplementary pieces and duets to play.

This edition is for solo violin, and is revised and edited by F.L. Smith. Published by G. Schirmer, distributed by Hal Leonard.

Difficulty: A1
