In strings, what is the difference between a "stranded steel core" and a "solid steel core"? Thank you! Rozanne Spires

SHAR Answer:

Great question! These are two different ways to make strings, and feel different when played. A "stranded" steel core (or "rope core") offers better flexibility & bow response over a "solid" steel core, and are very popular for lower strings. "Solid" steel cores are more direct, and offer a good deal of texture & power on higher strings. It's not uncommon to see "stranded steel core" strings on the G & C, with "solid steel" for the A & D!
