These pieces go very well with any method to emphasize certain technical points like smooth string changes, centering the left hand without tension, competence in traveling from upper to lower strings, refining basic bow strokes like detaché, staccato and spicatto. There is a certain physical freedom that is emphasized with short and relatively simple tunes that have a distinct charm.Written with the Rolland principles in mind, I recommend them highly for remedial and supplemental work in Suzuki and other methods. This is a required text in my Violin/Viola pedagogy course at NYU.
