Violinist Aleksey Igudesman, of musical comedy duo Igudesman & Joo, has created an ode to porcine life and love in his book Pigs Can Fly, a collection of easy duets for two violins. In addition to ten whimsical pieces of music, the book contains comical illustrations and original poems (in English and German) about pigs by Igudesman himself. For the author's inspiration, keep reading:
"But why did you choose pigs?' I hear you ask. Well, pigs are funny, jovial and a lot cleaner than one would suspect. And above all, they are pink." (from the introduction)
The book contains a CD, which is intended for listening purposes as well as play-along. Each piece has three separate tracks: a full version with both violin parts, a version with the 2nd violin part only, and a version with the 1st violin part only. So, even if you don't have a partner to play with, you can still get the full effect of the pieces!
The parts are printed in score format, meaning that both violin parts are on one page. Edited by Christian Löbisch and Mike Breneis, with illustrations by Irmi Vukovich, based on drawings by Julian Rachlin. Published by Universal Edition.
