Charles Gounod was best known for his operas, and for a few sacred compositions, such as his famous Ave Maria, which he composed over Bach's keyboard Prelude No. 1. He did, however, compose several chamber works late in life, including this String Quartet in A Major (sometimes called No. 2). Unfortunately, these pieces are almost never performed, despite their light Romantic qualities.
This edition is the first publication of the work, edited by L.J. Drop. It contains a score and parts. Published by Edition Kunzelmann.
