Claude Debussy's Prelude a L'apres-midi D'un Faune was composed as the first piece in a suite of three, though the other two parts were never composed. The piece appears to the listener to be free of form and almost improvisational, though it is underpinned by brilliant harmonic structure and fluid use of different meters. This prelude is a wonderful representation of Debussy's genius and style, and it has certainly affected the direction of music composition in the past century since it's premier.
