Though this Trio bears an Opus number from Beethoven's middle period of composition, it was actually composed much earlier. Around 1805, Beethoven was experiencing some financial difficulty, and he started revising and publishing unreleased early works, including this one. It is important to note that Beethoven did not publish works that initially did not meet his high standards; this trio certainly exhibits the high expected quality. Powerful and energetic, this melody is very characteristic of Beethoven's early work.
For Two Violins and Viola. Published by Breitkopf & Hartel.
