Frank Bridge wrote his Cello Sonata between the years 1913 and 1917. The piece reflects the turmoil of that time period, particularly in the second movement. Brahmsian style is noticeable, but the piece is nothing if not unique. Veronica Jacobs, daughter of Walter Leigh, transcribed this piece for viola.
