Don't purchase
This is a waste of money. Within 4 months of purchase, it stopped working. When it arrived, it was almost impossible getting the battery installed. I had no idea how I would change it when the time came. Well - no worries - it broke before then!
convenient
My student just bought this metronome and I was impressed with the quality and the price of it. Relatively loud metronome (louder than a lot of the cheap end metronomes, but not as loud as a Dr. Beat of course). I didn't like how you had to hold down the on button for a little bit to turn it on, but that is a little thing I could get over. Overall, I like how this one little machine did so much. My student has one machine for what I have three machines doing for me!
Works great in the classroom!
This tuner works well, and is budget friendly for my classroom. I have been able to purchase several over the last few years, and can loan these out to students to take home to practice tuning their instrument. My students find these easy to use - except when turning them on. You have to hold the "ON' button down until the device turns on. You cannot just press it. The only downside that I have found is that it sometimes has difficulty picking up bass and cello open strings (especially the lower ones). Also, if you are using this in a classroom setting, make sure you explain that it must be set to "440hz" to tune to today's standard.
Disappointing
We have trouble using this tuner and so does our teacher. We do not recommend purchasing it. We are quite disappointed with it.
Tuner
Good for the price. However, the tuner's pitch isn't correct; it does not indicate that you are out of tune.
Cheap
This tuner is very cheap and does it's job relatively well. It's fairly loud and the tuner is pretty accurate. However, it's fragile. I dropped mine once on carpet and it never worked again! If you buy this tuner, be careful. Overall, though, I think it's a pretty good metro tuner.
Very good metronome; tuner OK
I use the Shar STM-30 mainly for the metronome, which is loud enough for me to hear and has all the beat subdivisions I need. (I had to return a Korg TM-50 to another vendor because the metronome was inaudible over playing--and I'm a violist!) I'm less impressed with the tuner--I find the Korg CA more accurate and easier to read. I've had the Shar STM-30 for 2 1/2 years and it still works fine, contrary to what some other reviewers have experienced.
teacher
Hi. I like these tuners until the batteries die. I have tried to replace the batteries with a couple of different AAA batteries, and none fit in the tuners like the ones that come with the tuners. I'm not sure how to replace them if the batteries don't fit.
I love this!!!
I love this metro/tuner! Easy to use. The size is perfect and the fold out stand in back comes in handy. The metronome volume goes up real loud but the sound isn't annoying like some. Every now and then I've seen some of these that don't last more than a year but for this price they're easy to replace. I've had mine for at least 10 years and it still works fine.
Good product, good price
I require this versatile tool for all my violin, viola and guitar students. They are less shocked at the price than some of the other options, and it gives them tuning, pitch generation, and metronome all in one. One hint: you must hold down the on-button until the tuner comes on. You can't just punch at it. Other than that it works great.
Shar Metronome Tuner
Lasted just long enough for the warranty to expire. I've had an inexpensive Korg since the 80's and it's still going strong. I was hoping for more from the Shar version, but am sadly dissapointed. My next one will be a Korg again.
Cheap, and does the job
We got a tuner/metronome combo so I can use it to tune my trumpet and my kids can use the metronome for their piano lessons. My kids' piano teacher recommended getting an inexpensive model rather than a pricey one. This one was cheap, and it does a good job on both counts. I would definitely buy again!
Not made very well
I am a teacher and bought 11 of these for school use (tuning string instruments) one year ago. The price is right, but the product does not stand up to regular use. Already 3 of the 11 have broken. 2 Don't work, and one of them's buttons broke. In addition, they are a bit buggy. Even though we use them with pickups, they tend to jump to random letters and just act a bit funny. I recommend spending a bit more on a better quality tuner. I have some other brands of tuners that the students usee that are 5+ years old and still work great. I do not recommend this product.
Two In One Product
Fantastic product for the price! You're actually getting a tuner and a metronome, so you can stay in tune and keep perfect tempo without having to switch over to another gadget. Great price as well and very well made. My violin students have used this product for years.
Shar tuner
I highly recommend this product. It is great for students who are just starting out and cannot afford all the gadgets. The tuners often get twitchy when tuning the "G" string.
A
A good tuner to use in a pinch. Wish there was a little more volume range, but a good value for the cost.
don't buy this one
Not easy to use! Do not buy this turner.
Disappointing
We have struggled to make this work for our 11 year old. Too many buttons to push, and not intuitive for a young musician. It broke after one year.
too many variables for middle school
This tuner has too many variables that make it a nightmare for kids under the age of 16. You have to make sure the tuner says 440HZ, and has no flats displayed on the screen, or else you will not be tuning to the correct pitch. The middle schoolers constantly disregard that information, and tune their instruments to the wrong pitch, which has to be corrected. Also, it breaks the minute you drop it...just get the Snark SN1 for Amazon.com . It is half the price, has a built in pickup (get the snark SN2 if you also want it to have a microphone), no wires for the pickup, and no confusing functions. Note: The snark is not a metronome.
Great value
Great value for all the features. Tuner works from a distance. Metronome features and sound are great. Use it at group rehearsals and individual practice and well suited for both! Love it!
