Korg Contact Microphone

Item# CM200

$14.99

In Stock

The CM-200 is a contact microphone that can be attached to the bell of a brass instrument, the bridge of a violin, or even to a guitar or ukulele. The microphone uses a piezo element to directly capture the vibrations and send them to your tuner. The CM-200 is an indispensable item in situations where the mic built into your tuner might have difficulty detecting the sound of your instrument, such as when you're practicing with an entire brass band.

Compared to its predecessor, the CM-200 features a fresh appearance with a sharper design, offering you a choice of three colors: black, white/black, or black/red.

The functionality of the microphone has also been improved. The cable now transmits sound more efficiently, and is more flexible. The connection between the mic and cable has been made more durable, reducing the possibility of breakage. The new clip opens up 7 mm wider than the previous model, providing more space to attach to your instrument. The rubber inside the clip has been redesigned to provide a better fit so that it can be securely attached.

Fits any tuner with a 1/4" jack.

Gwendolyn Masin - Origin CD

Item# GM1CD

$12.00

In Stock

Gwendolyn Masin is one of today's significant concert violinists. She is regarded as "a formidable talent that demands attention" (The Irish Times), "appearing to merge with her instrument and in so doing, enchanting her audience" (Thuner Tagblatt). She is celebrated for "setting first-rate standards in concert performance with her technically superior, refined, intensive and richly contrasting expression" (Der Bund). Masin is descendant of a lineage of classically-trained musicians and remembers playing violin as naturally as having a conversation when she was a child. Her family, imbued with musical insight, helped her to avoid "the pitfalls of child prodigy status" (Figaro.hu). Her formative years were shaped by musical instruction, world travel, performing for audiences in reputable concert halls, and collecting accolades internationally – all by the age of five. At eleven she gained national exposure in Ireland after appearing on The Late Late Show. She has been a regular guest on TV and radio shows and has performed throughout Europe, Russia, South Africa, the Middle East, and North America. ORIGIN is a collection of the cultures, music, traditions and heritage which have shaped Gwendolyn Masin's life and talents. As the descendant in a lineage of musicians from Central and Eastern Europe, the young violinist grew up surrounded by music. She evolved as a player alongside the students of her parents who are founders of a school for gifted young string instrumentalists as well as violinists themselves. Dubbed a prodigy, Gwendolyn performed around the globe and in this way, was exposed to the music and arts of many cultures and places. The maturations of Gwendolyn from childhood prodigy to professional musician was synergistic - a player shepherding her heritage and multicultural background into the ever-changing world of classical music and traditional folk pieces. In her search for own identity, music appears to have found Gwendolyn. She arrived at her present moment, shaped by her experiences, with a unique mind, perspective and string artistic sensibilities. ORIGIN Tracklist:

1. Manuel de Falla: Danse Espagnole from La Vida Breve
2. Ernest Bloch: Nigun (Improvisation) from Baal Shem
3. Miklós Lukács: Bartók Impressions
4. Béla Bartók: Romanian Dances, Sz. 68
5. Maurice Ravel: Tzigane, Rapsodie de Concert

Paolo Vettori Cello, Montagnana 2017

This powerful cello by Florence master Paolo Vettori is based on the 1733 Montagnana. Two piece quarter sawn flamed maple back. The top is of two pieces of ancient spruce felled in 1772, with straight, pronounced grain of medium width. Varnish applied with tasteful shading and antiquing, in medium brownish-red over an amber ground.

Paolo Vettori
Paolo Vettori has lived his entire life in and near the Tuscan city of Florence, Italy, the heart and soul of Italian art and culture, and birthplace of the Renaissance. Receiving his early training from his father, Dario Vettori, Paolo started working in his father’s workshop at a very young age. He was fortunate to interact with many great makers in the region, who greatly supplemented his training, among them Sderci, Casini and Stefanini, who provided a direct line of inspiration to Paolo from Bisiach. From these masters, Paolo acquired not just new knowledge of techniques, but their approach to making, varnishing, and in some cases, even their tools and molds. Applying these resources, Paolo Vettori has created over 300 instruments, and remains today the head of his family’s workshop. He has since been joined by his children, who have become notable and respected luthiers, carrying out the Vettori family tradition into the third generation: Dario II, Sofia and Lapo, each of whom label their works individually.

Especially notable is the superb spruce employed in Vettori’s works, which originates from the Apennines, and was felled in 1772. The age and provenance of the wood is guaranteed and certified by Tuscia University.

Girorgio Grisales Cello 2017 – Garimberti Model

A beautiful cello by Cremona master Giorgio Grisales, based on a 1972 model by Milanese maker Ferdinando Garimberti. The back is of three pieces of highly figured maple, one large and two small. The top is two pieces of straight grained spruce of medium width, widening slightly at the flanks. Varnish is orange-red over a golden ground and is highly polished.

Giorgio Grisales
Colombian born Giorgio Grisales is a graduate of the illustrious "International School of Violinmaking" in Cremona, Italy. He furthered his training in Milan at the "Civic School of Violinmaking", where he focused on the art of instrument restoration. He established his Cremona workshop over 30 years ago, where he has since been joined by his two sons, Ricardo and Andrea.

Giorgio Grisales instruments reflect his training in traditional Cremonese violin making, his focus on the finest aged woods, his respect for the work of the great Cremonese masters, and his meticulous techniques, workmanship and varnishing. This much is obvious. But well beyond these important basics is the approach that Grisales takes with each instrument he makes: In his careful copying of history’s greatest instruments, Grisales strives to understand the spirit of the master, which is the foundation of the instrument, long before gouge contacts wood. His instruments have been consistently sought after because he has been able to capture this essence in his work. That is the basis of his well-deserved international reputation.

Seasonal Tune Projects for the Violinist / Fiddler
by Pam Wiley
American Music System

Fun to Play, and More!

Notable O’Connor Method teacher trainer and American Music System author, Pam Wiley, has created a truly unique book for the holidays. Students will love playing the expertly arranged tunes. Teachers will appreciate that, while they’re having so much fun, their students will be gaining valuable insights into playing the violin, as explained by Pam Wiley:

“This book presents a series of projects targeting a single technical, theoretical or musical aspect present in several familiar holiday tunes. It singles out a particular aspect prominent in each tune such as the syncopated rhythm of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the flat-5 passing tone in Silver Bells or the diminished 5th in Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. The tunes are not presented in song-book format and the "directions" are designed to guide students through the projects largely by ear. Charts of complete melodies with chords are included as an appendix. The book is beautifully illustrated and should be appealing to young students. Concepts included in the projects include: chopping, third position, 4th finger development, "hi" 3 development, scales and arpeggios, internal key changes, chord progressions, Sicilienne bowing and sub-dividing. This book contains material that is accessible to all levels of playing, note-reading, by-ear playing and understanding of theory. There is definitely some material easily accessible by beginners and definitely some projects that would challenge more advanced players. Use what you can this holiday season and then put the book away, take it out next year and go further!”

Mozart on Cello? Transcription for Cello by Dennis Parker
Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219 for Cello
Nucello Editions, 2013

“Since 1791, the year of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s death, cellists have lamented the fact that he did not leave behind a single solo work for the cello. How is it that one of the greatest musicians of all time, and one of history’s most prolific composers, could have neglected to leave us an original concerto or sonata? Alas, cellists today need to take these matters into our own hands. . .” - Dennis Parker

Cellist Dennis Parker was born in New York City and began his cello studies at the age of six. He received his early training with Channing Robbins of the Juilliard School, and later earned degrees from Indiana University and Yale University, where he worked with Janos Starker and Aldo Parisot, respectively.

Since 1988, Parker has served as Professor of Cello and String Chamber Music at the Louisiana State University School of Music. A former member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Parker has also served as Principal Cellist of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He has recorded to DVD the first complete performance of David Popper’s “High School of Cello Playing” and is the author of the accompanying manual, “Popper Manifesto”, an important and highly acclaimed addition to cello pedagogy.

Inspired by a variety of musical activity, Parker appears frequently as soloist, recitalist, collaborator, and guest professor at universities and festivals worldwide. He is actively involved in the expansion of the existing cello repertoire, and has transcribed many important works for his instrument, most recently Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K364, and Mozart’s A Major Violin Concerto, K219.

Parker has also released CDs with the Centaur label: Cello Matters features crossover music for cello and piano by Liduino Pitombeira, Daniel Schnyder, David Baker, and Astor Piazzolla; Uplifting Discoveries from a Generation Lost is a recording of chamber music by composers who perished in the Holocaust (Erwin Schulhoff, Gideon Klein, Viktor Ullmann and Hans Krasa). Other recent recordings include Volume 1 of Stolen Sonatas, with pianist Jennifer Hayghe, includes his own transcriptions of Debussy’s Sonata for Violin, Poulenc’s Sonata for Flute, and Enesco’s Sonata No.3 for Violin, The Lone Cello, featuring solo cello works by Scott Howard Eggert (his, Uccello), George Crumb, Viktor Kalabis, György Ligeti, and the complete cello works of Walter Burle Marx, his Concerto (1983), Sambatango for cello and piano, Divertimento a Tre for flute, oboe and cello, and the Casanova Fantasy Variations for Three Celli.

When not playing cello, Parker, an avid woodworker and sculptor, creates objects that extend his musical expression and complement the delicate act of performance with the risky business of maneuvering wood through various cutting and shaping devices. You can see his work at www.dennisparkerland.com.

Note about Mozart on Cello? from the editor:

These editions were created for cellists who have ‘repertoire-envy’ and desire Mozart as well. As Haydn’s Cello Concerti are ubiquitous, these works offer welcome alternatives and provide perhaps the best of Mozart! to any serious cellist.

The Broadcast Recording released concurrently with this publication, was, I believe, a premiere of these masterworks as cello concerti. In some way, this first performance felt historical, and I have since performed both works many times, from Nanjing, China, to Medellin, Colombia, and various points in between.

In my zealous undertaking of this homegrown project, a few typological inconsistencies were overlooked in final editing; however, the music is here, ready for your own interpretation. Fingerings and bowings, etc. are included as mere suggestions. The cadenzas were created with affection, humor, and deference to Mozart’s genius (and even a bit of Beethoven, and beyond).

Mozart on Cello? Transcription for Cello by Dennis Parker
Sinfonia Concertante in E flat Major, K.364
for Violin and Cello with Piano Accompaniment
