Plus & Minus

I own this and the Shar Mini. The pluses for this are the electronics, features and accuracy. The minus is the clip mechanism and size/shape. It is inconvenient clipped to the violin bridge. It does not fasten well over the nut or peg box edge. I find the Shar more useful.

Don't buy for bass

I asked Shar specifically what tuner would be able to pick up the low frequencies of the bass strings. They recommended this one, and let's just say it was a disappointment. It sometimes says the wrong note, or no note at all on the E string. I bought this for a student so she could tune her bass at home. $20 down the drain.

Very good tuner

My son loves this tuner. It works like a charm.

Not good at picking up the low end

I'm a cellist and got this thinking it would be nice to use a classical brand for tuning when playing with my band as it can be hard to hear on stage sometimes. This thing is not very good - poor at picking up low end open C as nothing reads on the screen. Very disappointed. Get a Snark instead - every guitarist uses one, wish they had them available on SHAR for string players.

Good tuner for MS orchestra classes

My Middle School Orchestra classes use this tuner during the noisy process of preparing for class. I have 5 tuners for a class of 20. The display is clear and simple to use. It clips to the scroll of the violin and viola and to the bridge of the cello and bass. Pizzicato works best. Basses need to use octave harmonic with a quick arco bow. Durability is good, but MS students are able to "loose" the rubber feet and the clips can break of after it is dropped several times.
