About This Item

A carefully-made violin with a clear and balanced sound that blends well, especially in small ensembles. Two-piece quarter sawn maple back of medium width flaming, descending from the center joint. Top of fine, straight-grained spruce. Red-orange varnish applied over a golden ground.

Johann Glass worked in Leipzig between 1900 and 1940, establishing a first-rate reputation as a maker, as well as a restorer for the symphony orchestra in Leipzig. He worked well into his 80s.
