About This Item

Very Clean Mirecourt violin, reminiscent of Audinot, in good to excellent condition. This violin possesses a pure and brilliant tone that will blend well in a chamber ensemble. Two piece well-pronounced narrow-flamed maple back, top of medium grained spruce. Refined scroll. Transparent light brown varnish over a golden ground, lightly shaded and showing reasonable wear.

Jean Striebig
Jean Striebig, master violin maker, was born in 1910 and worked in Mirecourt his entire career. Opening his own shop at 8, Rue Estivant in 1935, Striebig continued to make highly sought after violins well into the 1950s. He was a student of Leon Mougenout, one of the most highly respected masters of the modern French school of violin making. Known for precision work and detailing, and the use of exquisite tonewoods and finishing, his work is highly regarded to this day.
