About This Item

Born in 1902, Theodor Heinrich Heberlein was immersed in the art of violin making his entire life, working first for his father, the respected Markneukirchen maker Paul Wilhelm Heberlein. A careful and serious maker, after he obtained his master's certificate he spent a number of years working in Berlin, where he learned the art of restoration of fine Italian violins, then working in New York City. He returned mid-century to head the family firm, the famed Heberlein workshop.

Gorgeous wood selection is a hallmark of the Heberlein tradition, with this violin an exemplar. Rich, complex tone, perfect for blending with ensemble collaborators. Fine balance across the tonal spectrum.
The back is of two pieces of highly flamed maple, top of well pronounced fine to medium grained spruce. Tastefully shaded and antiqued varnish in deep red over an amber ground, in near perfect condition, lend an irresistible quality to this violin.
