About This Item

A lovely example of the E. H. Roth high-end Concert series violin, based on a perfect 1718 Stradivari specimen. Made in 1923, this violin is from Markneukirchen’s “Golden Era”. The tone is beautifully balanced, making this a versatile instrument for a wide range of styles, genres and venues. The tone is warm and burnished, with excellent blending qualities. The back is crafted of finely selected quarter sawn maple, with medium width flaming. The top is clear spruce, with narrow grained, well defined grain. Varnish is deep red-brown over golden ground. The violin is in an excellent state of preservation.

The E.H. Roth Workshop
Founded in 1902 by Ernst Heinrich Roth, the E. H. Roth company has regularly produced some of the finest German stringed instruments. It has also produced some of the best violin makers in Germany, who apprenticed with the firm and developed into master violin makers. All Roth violins have the Roth label inside, with the names of the best makers appearing on the labels, and the model number of the instrument also appearing, indicative of the level. Ernst Heinrich Roth himself is unquestionably considered the best maker at his family’s company.
