About This Item

A Stradivari pattern violin by the highly regarded French maker, Amadee Dieudonne. The tone is refined, brilliant and resonant. The two piece back is of flamed, medium width maple, cut on the quarter, with flaming descending from the center joint. The top is of clear, fine grained spruce. Varnish is orange-brown over a golden ground.

Amadee Dieudonne, born in Mirecourt in 1890, received his training from some of the great violin and bow makers of his day, including Gustave Bazin. He earned an outstanding reputation as a copyist of Italian master violins, which is reflected in the obvious care and precision of his works. Dieudonne was a prolific maker, sought after by players as well as by well-regarded firms, such as Moennig, Blanchard, Laberte and Millant, among others.
