Roth 7R Violin 1926 Mint Strad Model

A wonderful violin that exemplifies the best of the E. H. Roth workshop during their best years. Absolutely perfect condition. The model 7R is among the E. H. Roth Workshop highest level models, and is based on the famous “Red Stradivari” of 1722, a notoriously difficult instrument to copy. This violin has a rich and powerful sound. The back is of two piece medium flamed maple, delicately shaded. Fine, even-grained spruce top. The oil varnish has been expertly applied, and is of orange-red on a golden ground.

Ernst Heinrich Roth (1877-1948)
Trained in the art of violin making by his father, Ernst Heinrich Roth was the finest German maker of his day. He received further training abroad, most notably in Italy and France, developing his patterns and varnishes based on the traditions of Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati, incorporating what he learned into his work. His high musical skills enabled Roth to build instruments with tonal qualities that continue to be in high demand. Starting his company in 1902, Roth employed the best apprentices, many becoming well-known and respected makers under his tutelage. Savvy in the ways of business, he also exported his instruments to the US via his son’s trading company, Scherl and Roth, bringing attention to Roth instruments to the US, where they remain very popular among players for their rich, powerful tone.
