This sonorous viola, from the hands of Oliver Radke, is a beautiful example of the work of this respected German master. Made in a modern Italian style, the viola has a two piece maple back of medium width flame descending from the center joint. The spruce top is of medium width grain. Varnish is red-brown over a golden ground.
Violinmaker and bassist Oliver Radke has artfully combined his twin passions since his graduation from the Mittenwald School of Violinmaking almost thirty years ago. Hailing from a family of engineers, Radke is today also a highly sought-after consultant worldwide for instrument makers, especially in the discipline of acoustics and tone production. His award winning concert instruments exhibit his scientific/acoustic approach the moment they are played. Also an expert restorer, Radke's personal stock of carefully selected and cured tonewood is employed in both restorations and new instruments.
